Mesut Oezil

Germany playmaker Mesut Oezil hopes to be fit to face Belgium on Tuesday in his nation's final Euro 2012 qualifier.

The Real Madrid star missed Friday's 3-1 away win over Turkey after injuring his Achilles tendon on club duty in La Liga, and was replaced by Mario Goetze.

However, with the Borussia Dortmund youngster expected to be rested, Oezil hopes to return to the starting line-up in Dusseldorf.

"I think I can play against Belgium. The medical department of the federation has given me specific treatment and the discomfort in my Achilles tendon has gone," the 22-year-old said.

"I will take the decision together with the coach and practice on Monday and Tuesday, but I hope I will be (okay to play)."

If Oezil is unable to feature against Belgium, Marco Reus or Toni Kroos are likely to deputise.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is looking to maintain Germany's 100 percent record in the group when they tackle Belgium.

The Bayern Munich man played a key role against Turkey, and says that Germany are intent on securing their 10th victory in Group A.

"We don't want to show any weaknesses and we want to keep our qualifying run as flawless as possible," Neuer told Bild.

"The smallest display of weakness could have implications for us at Euro 2012 and we can't allow that."

Belgium must beat Germany to seal a playoff berth as Turkey, who are one point behind, play Azerbaijan in Istanbul.

Coach Georges Leekens' men have endured a mixed qualifying campaign for Euro 2012, but young stars such as Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne have caught the eye.

"In terms of our football and image, we've really made big strides forward since the start of the qualifying campaign," Leekens said.

"We've climbed 30 places in the world rankings and there's a new sense of confidence among the fans."

"There's much stiffer competition for places, the atmosphere among the squad is great and the players are once again proud to play for the national team. We have the tools to succeed in the future, if not now."
