Just 3,000 Three Lions supporters are expected to make the trip to Ukraine and Poland this summer due to travel costs and the price of accomodation in the host cities.

There will be only 3,000 England supporters in Poland and Ukraine for Euro 2012 as fans are unable to afford to travel to the tournament this summer.

The sky-high cost of accomodation and the distance required to travel have been blamed for the lack of numbers by fans' chiefs.

On average, the cost of a room in Ukraine for England's group games comes in at around £250 per person per night.

The FA have sold only half of their 7,800 ticket allocation for the 52,518-capacity Donbass Arena.

Kevin Miles, a spokesman for the Football Supporters Federation told The Daily Mirror: “Even the fans who regularly travel are not bothering.

“The practical difficulties of getting there, travelling between the venues, the high cost of accommodation and the economic situation have combined to hit ticket sales.

“The first game, France v England in Donetsk, is the one they are having real problems selling tickets for. The Sweden game is better because that is on a Friday, but overall there will be fewer England fans than at any Euro tournament in recent history.”

Match tickets are comparatively cheaper, with fans able to attend three group games and every knockout fixture, including the final, for €250 (£209).
